Ask the practice
Do I need a referral?

Many medical schemes require a referral from a GP before they pay specialist benefits in full. Check with your scheme before your appointment.

The practice team can tell you what they need when you get in touch.

Will I need an operation?

Not necessarily. Many conditions of the spine and brain are managed without surgery, or are monitored over time. Any recommendation is made after a consultation and a review of your scans.

What should I bring to my first consultation?

Your referral letter, your scans and the radiologist's reports, previous medical reports, a list of your medication, and your ID and medical aid details. The checklist on this page has the full list.

Can I send my scans or medical records through the website?

No. To protect your privacy, the website enquiry form does not accept files or detailed medical information. The practice will explain how to share your records securely once they have been in touch.

What if my symptoms are urgent?

Do not use the website for urgent problems. If you have sudden weakness, loss of bladder or bowel control, a severe sudden headache, a seizure or a head or spine injury, go to your nearest emergency unit or call 10177 or 112.
